Ardy Strüwer

He paints, talks, makes chalk drawings on the floor of the blowing room, where his ideas are born and take shape in consultation with the craftsmen at the furnaces. In Ardy’s own words, glass is like a woman playing hard-to-get – easy to heat up but quickly cools down.

His preference is for unique pieces that are at once outspoken, sensitive and full of colour. In each new design he seeks sensuality, striving to create glass that is tempting to the eye and pleasing to the touch.

Ardy Strüwer has succeeded in adopting Magnors traditional glassmaking skills and raising them to new, unexpected heights.

Born in Batavia, Indonesia, in 1939, Ardy has pursued an international career and developed his own characteristic style in the graphic arts and lithography. His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, the Royal Art Academy in The Hague, the Musée de l’Art Moderne in Paris, the New York Art Fair, and at numerous other exhibitions all over the world.

This versatile artist has also produced lithographs for Palet Music, for Charlie Parker, and has represented Sweden at the Montreux TV Festival. He has worked as a designer for Magnor Glassworks since 1998 and has produced both unique pieces and several ranges of highly popular glassware.
