Johan Verde

Beautiful, artistic lines...

Johan Verde creates a beautiful, harmonic expression that pushes the limits of art glass. The result is different and bold, but still practical. Johan Verde is the man behind the vase Ibsen (1996) and the fish and shellfish service Neptun (1996).

Born in 1964, and educated at SHKS, Statens Håndverk og Kunstindustriskole (the National College of Arts, Crafts and Design), Johan Verde has dedicated most of his adult life to design. As a freelance designer, he has gained diverse knowledge and inspiration from a number of different materials and products. Many of his models are linked to the set table, for example glass and porcelain models, cutlery and furniture.

Johan Verde likes to combine aesthetics and functionality. He has also designed chocolate and ice cream. Over the years he has won many awards, for example, Merket for God Design for both glass and porcelain, the Norwegian Design Award for Young Talent, and first prize in Statens designkonkurranse for porselen (the national design competition for porcelain). He is represented in the InnoTown exhibition and in a Nordic design exhibition in Amsterdam. “Glass design is about having an idea, but also to be a bit humble towards the material, so as to seize the possibilities it offers," says Johan Verde.
