Energy is a constant presence... Kjersti Elvevold, also known as K2E, creates artworks in a variety of disciplines. Her main fields are architectural and sculptural glass, painting, photography and silver jewellery. What is special about her art is that it does not merely depict figures and symbols; you can sense the presence of life and energy surrounding the physical shapes. Kjersti grew up in Alta, a stone’s throw from one of the largest rock-carving sites in Scandinavia. This may explain why she mixes Stone Age symbols with runes and shamanic and religious symbols she has picked up through her interest in modern shamanism and healing. The energy associated with human creations is a recurring theme in many of K2E’s works. The journey between dream and reality, the physical and the metaphysical, takes shape as a parallel dance in cast glass panels or as dream landscapes on canvas. The boundaries are transparent, just as in real life. After attending Oslo Cathedral School, Kjersti Elvevold studied for two years at the Strykejernet art college. She moved on to the University of Staffordshire in England to study fine arts, and at the same time she began to learn reiki healing. Her studies then took her to Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, where she majored in glass and architectural glass. The outcome was a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree and a diverse artistic career. K2E has had several solo exhibitions and has featured in numerous other exhibitions in Britain and Scandinavia. Her work has been purchased by the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, and in 2005 she was recognized with an award from the Royal Incorporation of Architects, Edinburgh. After almost a decade in Britain, Kjersti moved back to Norway, where she now runs K2E Art & Design and works as a freelance designer. Kjersti Elvevold made her debut for Magnor Glassverk with the hand-painted Love series. The message of these works is to live for the moment, with an open heart and mind. Runes and symbols provide blessing and protection on the journey towards greater openness, love and insight. |
