Gérard Lehmann wanted to let his passion for wine be expressed in the glasses. Based in Champagne, France, Lehmann manufactures world-class champagne glasses and wine glasses.
In the beginning, only champagne glasses were produced, which thanks to their elegance and precision were appreciated by the biggest champagne houses. Today, Lehmann is the main supplier of champagne glasses to Tattinger, Bollinger, Roederer and a long line of other well-known champagne manufacturers.
When Gérard wanted to expand his production to also make entire ice cream series for still wine, he dreamed of being able to expand the possibilities of enjoying the drink. That's why some of France's top wine and food experts were hired when the glasses were to be designed.
Philippe Jamesse is the head sommelier at Domaine les Crayères, a restaurant that has received three Michelin stars. Among other things, he is behind the Signature Premium glass series, a high-quality machine-made glass. The series is made of the material Ultralight, which is a unique, lead-free glass mass. Ultralight provides exceptionally thin glasses which, together with the perfect round shape, bring out the best qualities of the wine.
Jamesse himself says “The glass is a container that highlights the aromas and refines the wine's quality. At Lehmann, the expert knowledge of glassmaking and oenology amounts to a subtle union, and passionately shapes delicate lines that harmonize with what you taste."
Gérard Basset, awarded multiple times and named the world's best sommelier, ran the TerraVina hotel in Hampshire in Great Britain. The wine glasses in the Signature Hommage series have been designed by Gérard Basset, and he himself said about his glasses:
"All details play a role in making the taste experience a sensual symphony. I wanted to make a collection that enhances the feeling of community when we gather in smaller and larger events.”
The glasses in Signature Hommage combine the sleek round cup with a certain tightness in the design that gives a striking profile. The material here is also the lead-free Ultralight crystal.
Fabrice Sommier has also been awarded many times for his work as a sommelier. The glasses in his collection have been named after the Greek and Roman world of gods, as well as from his two sons Clément and Hadrien. Fabrice Sommier calls his collection pragmatic and perfectly balanced.
He also says: “Wine is a mixture of culture and meeting people. I am particularly interested in how food and wine can be combined, and how we can share the experiences of those combinations together.”
The glasses designed by Fabrice Sommier are stylishly executed with their graceful angles and straight lines. The result is an ethereal lightness that is also felt in the thin glass.
Arnaud Lallement is head chef and owner of the restaurant L'Assiette Champenoise, which has received three Michelin stars. His father ran the restaurant before Arnaud took over. Arnaud Lallement's collection Signature No. 1 – 4 are characterized by his own cooking. Arnaud says:
“I try to cook food that is simple, very clean and bordering on acidic. I wanted my collection to be designed that way too.”
And Arnaud Lallement's collection Signature No. 1 – 4 really bring to mind a tight and restrained elegance. The tall, slim lenses are also manufactured in Ultralight and extremely thin.
